Most owners find out what their business is worth far too late.
By the time a broker has been engaged and a memorandum drafted, an owner has usually spent weeks and several thousand dollars to learn something they could have known at the start. The information needed is already sitting in their own books.
Baseworth exists to close that gap. A free valuation gives you a realistic starting range in about three minutes. If you decide to go further, the Baseworth Package (CIM) turns the same information into the document buyers, lenders and accountants actually ask for.
How the valuation works
We use Seller's Discretionary Earnings — the measure most small business buyers work from. SDE takes net profit and adds back what a new owner would not inherit: the owner's own salary, personal expenses run through the business, one-time costs, interest, and depreciation.
That earnings figure is then multiplied by the typical range for your industry. A hospitality business trades in a different band than a manufacturer, and the range matters more than any single number in it.
Every figure is quoted from your own documents
This is the part we care most about. When the package reports an add-back, it prints the line from your P&L it came from, word for word. Every figure has to name its source — a line in your documents or an answer you gave — and wherever your documents can be read as text, that line is checked against them. A figure that fails the check is taken out, or put to you as a question.
The arithmetic is not done by a language model. Figures are read from your documents, then the valuation is calculated in code — so the same financials always produce the same result, and the add-backs listed always sum to the total quoted.
What Baseworth is not
- Not a certified valuation. It is not prepared by a credentialed appraiser and should not be presented as one.
- Not a substitute for professional advice. Talk to an accountant, an attorney and, if it suits you, a broker before you sell.
- Not a listing service. Nothing about your business is published anywhere. What you do with your package is entirely your decision.
A buyer will do their own diligence and may reach a different number. The point of the package is that when they ask how you arrived at yours, you have an answer with the source line printed beside it.
Who is behind it
Baseworth is built and run independently by one person in Folsom, California. It is not a brokerage and takes no commission: the only charge is the $349 package, and it is the same whether you sell, for how much, or not at all.
